Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 2026

Ranky (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who interacts with our platform. This includes service providers who list on Ranky, customers who are contacted for reviews, and visitors who browse our website.

This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights you have. We’ve written it in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@heyranky.com and we’ll explain.

Who this policy applies to

This policy covers three groups of people:

Customers. People who have used a service provider and are contacted by Ranky to provide feedback. You did not sign up for Ranky. A provider you hired shared your contact information with us as part of their application or listing.

Service providers. Professionals who apply to or are listed on the Ranky platform.

Website visitors. Anyone who visits the Ranky website, including people who submit a contact form or provider application.

How customer data reaches us

Ranky does not collect customer contact information directly from customers. When a service provider applies to Ranky or is listed on our platform, they share records of their recent jobs with us. Those records include customer names, phone numbers, and details about the work performed. This information is shared with us so that we can independently verify the quality of the provider’s work by contacting their customers.

Providers who share customer data with Ranky represent that they have the legal right to do so and that the data is accurate. See our Terms of Service for details on provider obligations.

What we collect from customers

When we contact you to collect a review, we may collect:

Your name and phone number. Provided to us by the service provider as part of their job records. Used only to reach you for the review.

Your review. Your spoken responses during our structured quality interview, covering the provider’s work quality, professionalism, timeliness, and pricing fairness.

Call recordings. Our review calls may be recorded for quality assurance and to maintain an accurate record of your feedback. You will be informed at the beginning of the call if it is being recorded, and you may decline to be recorded.

Your attribution preference. Whether you’d like your review published with your first name and city, or anonymously.

Your opt-out preference. If you ask not to be contacted again, we record that preference and honor it.

What we collect from service providers

When you apply to or are listed on Ranky:

Business information. Your business name, trade or service category, and service area.

Contact details. Your name, phone number, and email address.

Job records. Invoices, booking confirmations, or other documentation of recent work, including customer names and contact information. These are used for our vetting and ongoing review process.

Quality score data. The aggregated results of verified customer reviews collected through our process.

Payment information. Information necessary to process commission payments. Payment processing is handled by third-party providers; Ranky does not store credit card or bank account numbers directly.

What we collect from website visitors

When you visit the Ranky website:

Analytics data. We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics service that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. We see aggregated page views, referral sources, and general geographic regions. We cannot identify individual visitors.

Form submissions. If you submit a contact form or provider application, we collect the information you provide (name, email, phone, message, business details). This information is stored by our form processing service and shared with our team.

No tracking cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, or user tracking.

How we use your data

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

To operate the Ranky platform. This includes contacting customers for reviews, calculating provider quality scores, publishing rankings, and delivering customer leads to providers.

To communicate with providers. We use provider contact information to manage listings, share quality scores and review summaries, send platform updates, and process commission payments.

To improve our service. We use aggregated, anonymized data to improve our review methodology, interview scripts, and platform features.

To respond to inquiries. We use contact form data to reply to questions from customers, providers, and other visitors.

We do not sell personal data. We do not use customer contact information for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than the review collection process. We do not send promotional emails to customers.

AI-assisted review collection

Ranky uses AI-assisted technology to conduct some quality review interviews. We are transparent about this because we believe you have the right to know.

When AI is used on a call, you will be informed at the beginning of the conversation. The AI follows a structured interview script and collects the same information a human interviewer would. If you prefer to speak with a person, you can request a human interviewer at any time during the call, and we will accommodate that request.

AI is used to make the review collection process scalable and consistent. It does not make decisions about review content, scoring, or provider rankings. Human team members oversee the process and handle complex situations, disputes, and edge cases.

For more detail on how AI fits into our methodology, see our Methodology page.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell personal data to anyone, for any reason.

We may share data in the following limited circumstances:

With service providers (limited). Providers can see their own quality scores, review summaries, and attributed review content (subject to customer attribution preferences). Providers cannot see raw customer contact information for reviews collected through Ranky’s ongoing process.

With service providers we use to operate Ranky. We work with third-party services for hosting, analytics, form processing, payment processing, and communication tools. These providers only access the data they need to perform their function and are contractually required to protect it. We do not share data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

When required by law. We may disclose personal data if required by a valid legal process such as a court order, subpoena, or regulatory request.

In a business transition. If Ranky is acquired, merges with another company, or sells substantially all of its assets, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We would notify affected users before their data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Review attribution

When a customer review appears on Ranky, it is attributed in one of two ways based on the customer’s preference:

With consent: first name and city (e.g., “Sarah, Austin”) Without consent or by request: “Verified Customer”

Both versions contribute equally to the provider’s quality score. You will be asked about your attribution preference during the review call. You can change your preference at any time by contacting us.

Data retention

Customer data. We retain customer names, phone numbers, and review content for as long as the associated provider is listed on Ranky, plus a reasonable period afterward for recordkeeping. If you request deletion, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, though your anonymized review may continue to contribute to the provider’s score.

Provider data. We retain provider data for as long as the provider’s listing is active, plus a reasonable period after removal for recordkeeping, dispute resolution, and legal compliance.

Website visitor data. Contact form submissions are retained for as long as needed to respond to your inquiry, typically no more than 12 months.

Opt-out records. If you ask not to be contacted, we retain a record of that preference indefinitely so we can honor it.

Data storage and protection

We store all data using industry-standard security practices, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to personal data is restricted to team members and authorized service providers who need it to operate the platform. We use access controls, audit logs, and secure authentication to protect against unauthorized access.

While we take reasonable steps to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and any applicable regulatory authorities as required by law.

Your rights

Regardless of where you live, Ranky provides the following rights to all users:

Opt out of contact. Customers can ask not to be contacted again at any time, during a call, by replying STOP to a text, or by emailing us. We will honor this request within 10 business days.

Update your review. You can contact us to update, amend, or provide additional context to your feedback.

Request deletion. You can request deletion of your personal data by emailing hello@heyranky.com. We will process your request within 30 days.

Access your data. You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you by emailing hello@heyranky.com.

Correct your data. If any personal data we hold about you is inaccurate, you can ask us to correct it.

Outbound calls and text messages

Ranky conducts manual outbound calls and may send text messages to customers as part of our review collection process. These are not sales calls, marketing calls, or automated telemarketing. They are quality assurance calls to collect verified feedback about a service provider.

Calling hours. We place calls between 9:00 AM and 8:00 PM in the recipient’s local time zone.

Do Not Call. We maintain an internal Do Not Call list. If you ask us to stop calling, we add you to this list and honor the request within 10 business days. You can also register your number on the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov.

Text messages. If we contact you by text, you can reply STOP at any time to opt out. We will confirm your opt-out and will not text you again.

Children’s privacy

Ranky does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. Our review collection process is directed at adults who have hired service providers. If we learn that we have collected data from a person under 16, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a minor, please contact us at hello@heyranky.com.

California residents (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:

Right to know. You can request a detailed accounting of the personal information we have collected about you in the past 12 months, including the categories and sources of data, our purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.

Right to delete. You can request that we delete the personal information we hold about you, subject to certain exceptions.

Right to correct. You can request correction of inaccurate personal information.

Right to opt out of sale or sharing. Ranky does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Right to non-discrimination. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

To exercise these rights, email hello@heyranky.com. We will verify your identity before processing your request.

Residents of other states with privacy laws

Several U.S. states have enacted consumer privacy laws that may provide you with additional rights, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Iowa, Tennessee, and others. If you are a resident of one of these states, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to opt out of certain processing activities. To exercise these rights, email hello@heyranky.com.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify affected users by email or by posting a prominent notice on our website at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.
